The organisers of the meeting are hoping for a good turn out. They feel the issues at stake are so important that whole families will want to attend. "Why would we be OK with something so oppressive and offensive to be displayed in our village" asked one older lady.
An attendee at a previous meeting said "It was helpful to hear more about the issue and how it affected me. I hadn't realised before it's full impact upon my day to day life. It was great the way the children and young people were helped to understand it too as I can now see that this is important for all ages"
Organisers apoligised for the timing of the meeting as they realise that Sunday morning isn't a great time for families. But they assured those who were considering going that it would really set them up for the rest of the day and the the week ahead of them.
The meeting starts at 11am and lasts about an hour. The tea/coffee afterwards will give you a chance to meet fellow demonstrators and chat about what they think should be done about this symbol and what it stands for.
Meeting Venue: 2nd Dromara Presbyterian church (If this is too far to travel to, other demonstration have been organised throughout the island)
If you want to understand better what I'm blithering about, I have written about this symbol before. Here's part of that post.
