"I am thirsty"

When the heart that was pierced by that Roman spear began to beat again. When those lungs that had fought for breath and failed a few days before filled with air again. When the body that was beginning to decay came to life again. When Jesus rose from the dead, it was like an explosion whose shock waves are still being felt today.
The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ created a dividing line in history, a pinpoint moment when everything changed. Yet while the changes were truly colossal, the impact is more like the flow of water on a parched land. Those who drink it in-live. Or as Jesus said,
“Whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life” (John 4:14).
When the stone was rolled away, life giving water flowed out. And when we drink it in, it creates a dividing line in our story, a pinpoint moment when we…
No longer are enemies of God but children of God,
No longer face the judgement of God but the embrace of God
No longer live in fear but living hope,
No longer are rejected but now accepted in the Beloved,
No longer walking in darkness but in the light,
No longer fearing death but living life to the full,
No longer thirsting but satisfied.
Jesus experienced the thirst of death for you and me that we through his resurrection might know his everlasting, ever flowing life.
Do you thirst? Does your life seem dry? More like a desert than a lush garden. You may enjoy moments of refreshing with the successes and joys of your life but they quickly become like mirages-dust in your mouth, decay in your bones, despair in your future. Is this it? Is this all we can expect? NO!
The living Jesus Christ stands before you and says “if anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the scripture has said, stream of living water will flow from him [or her]” (John 7:37-38)
Then came the morning that sealed the promise
Your buried body began to breathe
Out of the silence, the Roaring Lion
Declared the grave has no claim on me
Jesus, Yours is the victory
[Listen to the whole song here]
Why not, this Easter, drink in the Water of Life and live.
