Christmas is for all

Joy to the World

Does it sadden you that there are children in the world who will not receive a gift this Christmas? If it does, you believe Christmas is for all. You believe Christmas should be celebrated worldwide. But why? Why do we even celebrate the birth of a middle eastern child from ancient history? And why would it sadden us that children would wake up in Christmas morning and not receive a gift? We instinctively know that it's about more than just the gift. We want people to know about the joy that lies behind the gift.

The answer to the why is built into the very DNA of Jesus birth. Jesus birth burst from the pages of history and it cannot be confined to any one culture. Let's hear from the angel "Fear not, for behold I bring you good news of Great joy for all the people" (Luke 2:10) Or listen to these mysterious wise men from the east (we'll look at them again in a future post) "Where is he who was born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it arose and have come to worship him" (Matthew 2:2). Though he is king of the Jews, these non Jewish men travel from afar to worship at his feet.

The implications of Jesus birth, life and death are global. There must be something special about this baby. There must be something completely other about this birth. Christmas is for all.
